European standards: the role of CEN and CENELEC

European standards are written in the same way as national standards.
And participation in European standards development is arranged by the National Standards Body of each country via their membership of their European counterparts, the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC).
